Route Guide

A tour to discover the historical and naturalistic treasures present in the 200 hectares of this protected area inserted in the Appia Antica Park. Ancient tombs, luxuriant vegetation, ancient farmhouses, sacred groves, Roman ruins, rich springs, ancient quarries, local fauna, the Nymphaeum of Egeria will accompany you along the way. Start the itinerary from the bicycle shop on the Appia Antica, cycling at your own pace to the Colosseum. Since it is not a real cycle path, we recommend following this route on Sunday because the Appia Antica is closed to car traffic. The Appia Antica regional park will give you unique emotions. Be careful, it is quite easy to fall, as some sections of the road are not as paved as others; it is therefore advisable to stay close to the roadside and, especially near the large masses of Roman pavement, to get off the bicycle and continue on foot until the road becomes easily passable again.

Did you know?

The Casale della Vaccareccia was one of the residences of the Caffarella family, built around 1500 and still used for agricultural activities and for the production of cheese, in particular the typical Roman pecorino. The farmhouse and the nearby stables can only be visited from the outside and it is possible to buy and taste local products.
